Don't let your employer control your earnings!
For almost 20 years I let myself be stuck in a dead end career that I disliked more every day. My employers constantly were revamping the wage, bonus and benefit programs (revamping means reducing!). I knew what I was really interested in doing, but was scared to walk away from a steady paycheck for a 100% commission career.
Now - I am earning more than I ever have and I'm only getting warmed up! It is really exciting to know that you can actually earn more by working harder. However, you need to be associated with a company who is really interested in seeing agents succeed. A lot of agencies are constantly looking for more ways to generate more income off of their agents! You need to be very careful to choose a brokerage that will truly let you be a business owner and not look to take a referral fee from you every time you turn around.
This may sound corny, but at KW, one of the guiding philosophies is "Win-Win Or No Deal". I have seen that in practice since Day 1.
